Evening Masterwork: Mozart’s “Posthorn” Serenade

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756 – 1791)

Serenade No. 9 in D K 320 “Posthorn” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

Evening Masterwork for January 21, 2020 – 7:00 PM on Classical WSMR 89.1 and 103.9

You may or may not be familiar with the posthorn. It’s a brass instrument that’s shaped like a circle… sort of like a French horn without all the valves and tubing in the middle – and in the 18th and 19th centuries it was used to signal the arrival and departure of a mail coach. Mozart also used the instrument in his Serenade No. 9, which earned the nickname “posthorn.” It’s our Evening Masterwork tonight at 7 on Classical WSMR.
