Evening Masterwork: Schubert’s Symphony No. 3 in D
Symphony No. 3 in D by Franz Schubert
Evening Masterwork for February 14, 2020 – 7:00 PM on Classical WSMR 89.1 and 103.9
In 1815, when Franz Schubert was only 18-years old, he was working full-time, year-round as a school teacher, taking twice-weekly composition lessons, and teaching his own students privately on the side. And in the midst of all of this, he still managed to compose over 200 works – including four operas, two masses, two symphonies, and 145 songs. One of those symphonies was his Third Symphony in D Major, which he completed, start-to-finish, in 26 days. And by the way, he also finished an operetta, and a handful of songs in those same 26 days. We’ll hear the Symphony No. 3 in D by Franz Schubert tonight at 7: our Evening Masterwork on Classical WSMR.
