Modern Notebook, Sunday December 8 at 8 PM on Classical WSMR 89.1 and 103.9

On this week’s Modern Notebook, Tyler Kline will have music for solo cello by Paola Prestini inspired by the writings of Shakespeare, a work by Christopher Stark that reflects on the 2016 Maple Fire, the largest forest fire in Yellowstone National Park since 1988, and performances by Unheard-of//Ensemble, the Parhelion Trio, Admiral Launch Duo, and more.

Hour 1

  • Paola Prestini‘s Ophelia.
  • …a mesure by Phillipe Hurel.
  • A major orchestral work by Einojuhani Rautavaara, A Tapestry of Life.
  • Annika Socolofsky‘s Turadh, which reflects on the composer’s time spent playing fiddle for her grandmother and her identical twin on bleak Midwestern days at their home in rural Kansas.

Hour 2

Modern Notebook is hosted by WSMR’s Tyler Kline, and is a program that highlights music composed since the Mid-20th Century, with a special focus on the music of living composers.
