The classics

Puccini’s La Boheme was the opera that inspired Jonathan Larson’s Pulitzer Prize-winning musical Rent in 1996. Those who swear by that groundbreaking show might want to roll the clock back to 1895 and investigate when the ground was well and truly broken.

La Boheme will close out Season 20 for the St. Petersburg Opera Company, June 5-14 at the Palladium Theater.

As reported Tuesday, The Florida Orchestra’s June concerts (also closing out the season) are Symphony by the Sea, a free performance June 6 at the Baycare Sound; Defying Gravity – The Music of Stephen Schwartz, at 2 p.m. June 7, Straz Center Morsani Hall; Music of Studio Ghibli (7:30 p.m. June 20, Ruth Eckerd Hall).
