Evening Masterwork: Vorisek’s Symphony in D

Jan Vaclav Vorisek (1791-1825)

Symphony in D by Jan Vaclav Vorisek

Evening Masterwork for October 23, 2020 – 7:00 PM on Classical WSMR 89.1 and 103.9

The Symphony in D by Jan Vaclav Vorisek is the only surviving orchestral work by the late-Classical Era Czech composer. Unfortunately, the composer lived a relatively short life, but in his lifetime he was seen in high regard: the Symphony in D was often compared to the early symphonies of Beethoven. And despite it being Vorisek’s only orchestral work, it was also cited as a source of inspiration for Romantic composers, notably Schubert. It’s our Evening Masterwork, tonight at 7, on Classical WSMR 89.1 and 103.9.
