Yes, it’s Halloween.
But this is also the date back in 1517, when an obscure German theologian and religious reformer named Martin Luther is said to have nailed his "95 Theses" to the door of a church in Wittenberg, Germany.
It was on this day, Oct. 31, 1517.
His words and deeds brought about a movement that reshaped certain basic ideas of Christian belief.
They also divided the Western Christian world into Roman Catholicism and new traditions of Protestantism.
He was put on trial for heresy and the Pope excommunicated him in 1521.
Luther wrote the music and lyrics for the hymn, “A Mighty Fortress is our God.”
It was published around 1529.
It’s based on the text of Psalm 46 and became known as “The Battle Hymn of the Reformation.”
