On this day, Feb. 18, 1998, Italian Tenor Andrea Bocelli made his operatic debut as Rodolfo in Giacomo Puccini’s “La bohème,"
with the Teatro Comunale Caligari.
Luciano Pavarotti discovered Bocelli after a recording of the younger tenor was handed to Pavarotti by a famous Italian pop star.
Bocelli eventually became a global superstar.
Now, Bocelli’s son, Matteo Bocelli, is carving out a place for himself in the world of popular music.
The elder Bocelli was scheduled to perform in Tampa last night as part of his "Romanza-30th Anniversary World Tour."
