July 20 is the birthday of Scottish Italian Violinist Nicola Benedetti.
She was born in West Kilbride, North Ayrshire in 1987.
She’s been widely praised as a classical music advocate and along with being made a “Commander of the British Empire” in 2019, she won a Grammy Award for her recording of Wynton Marsalis’ Violin Concerto, for “Best Classical Instrument Solo” in 2020.
She has described music as “the art of all things we can’t see or touch.”
Her eponymous music education foundation Benedettifoundation.org hosts mass music events and brings together those who believe that music is an essential part of education.
Benedetti’s path to fame was secured when she was 16, by winning “BBC Young Musician of the Year” in 2004.
Her latest musical release is “Violin Café,” reimagines romantic, virtuosic, and folk music in a casual, 19th century European café style, which brought together all different kinds of instruments.
